Fun: that is part of the name of Louis de Funès, an actor who gave me a lot of pleasure when I was young, especially when he acted as a hot tempered police inspector. Here is his chart:

The Moon has a key role in the pattern of artistic talent. The Moon is sextile Venus, square Midheaven and 112.5 degrees Neptune in Cancer (ruled by Moon and rising before the Sun). An aspect of 112.5 degree is a square + half semi square.

Chart and talent of Harisson Ford

Harrison Ford is the actor who impersonates Indiana Jones, the adventurer. Harrison Ford was born July 13, 1942, 11h41 a.m. CWT in Chicago Heights with this chart:

Highlights:

• Mercury (using the voice: speaking,writing) is calling! (no major aspects in 5d orb or sign) and that means that he communicates at any possible level (and sometimes not at all:) and 
• Mercury square Zero Aries (for being known) AND 
• Mercury conjunct MC (for professional communications)
• the Moon (keeping the memories alive or ... imitation, reflection) is ruler of the Cancer MC (history, pretending, feeding, educating) and 
• Moon strong in Cancer (good for actors). 

Venus sextile Mars is the tightest aspect (it means: a passion or a passionate person).
Mercury is very prominent , so that he could not miss the theme of the 'messenger' or 'interpreter'.

Is there an astrological pattern for artistic talent here? Yes, but not the usual one. We see:

Now it seems that Venus is not related to Moon or Neptune or MC. But there is a quindecile (=strong focus) of Venus with IC and Midheaven is in hard aspect with Moon/Venus. It is the professional axis (IC-MC) that unites Moon, Venus and Neptune like this:

MC in Cancer sextile Neptune = Moon/Venus 

And why movies? Neptune in angular placement close to the Ascendant is an important indication. It means impersonating or disguise or... arts and movies (the world of fantasies) is important.

JUPITER/NEPTUNE
Notice that Mars is conjunct the midpoint Ascendant/MC and Jupiter/Neptune (semi square MC). Jupiter/Neptune, again, is pointing at fans and followers, succesful 'fake' or 'make belief' etc. and very fortunate for an actor. I think that Jupiter/Neptune is the combination of the believing audience. This combination pops up in the charts of those who are on stage, before a public that 'believes' in them. George W. Bush, the painter

The Huffington Post has a few messages about George W. Bush painting and now that I know about this, I want to know: does he have the same pattern of artistic talent as others on this blog have?

Moon in Libra

Venus trine MC

So, the answer is: yes, he does. (Sorry, political enemies and critics!:)

He could have chosen for an artistic career when he was young. The 'calling' Saturn (no aspects, square Midheaven) points at the importance (to him) of ambition, the father and status, classical education stood in the way. I don't know if it is too lae (is it ever:) but Saturn also refers to old age, patience and time passing bye.

PS, a bit not on topic:
when he retired the progressed Midheaven inconjunct Pholus (link to my site Astromarkt) reflected a turning point in life with a loss involved. Pholus is in his 6th house of daily pattern. Maybe now he found a way to deal with that lost pattern.

Chart and talent of Placido Domingo

Placido Domingo is a Spanish tenor and director with a very typical voice. Performers in the arts need artistic talents just as the creators of art do. In this case, there is a different astrological pattern than usual. Usually Moon, Venus and Neptune are connected with Midheaven and each other, supported by the signs that they rule (Cancer, Libra, Taurus and Pisces). In the chart of Placido Domingo we see:

a. a prominent Neptune (Neptune is 'calling', no mayor aspect in orb 5 degrees or in sign; and square Sun/Moon. It means that he was motivated for the arts, very much, at any kind of level, somehow, anyhow)

b. the moon stands right in the middle of Venus and Neptune. In other words: Venus/Neptune is conjunct the Moon.

c. There are minor aspects between Moon and Venus and Neptune. They are connected by septiles (1/7th of the circle). Moon/Venus is in aspect with Ascendant and Midheaven.
The septile is considered to mirror the energy that inspires us and others.

His chart doesn't immediately show the singer, unless you use this:

Mercury (communications, voice and pen) ruler of the Midheaven is in the 5th house of plays, games and shows, exactly square ruler 5 (plays) = Saturn (business).

Then you see the business of singing for entertainment.

Chart of Giorgio Armani

It is rather easy to see the fashion, the style and being special in the chart of Giorgio Armani. Water signs use to go with the flow and fashion is such a flow. Do designers create fashion or do they follow a trend? I am not sure. Anyway, what a designer needs is sense of beauty and style with vision. He or she needs to be creative. They also need to be special and draw attention (or else, who would notice their creations?). It is also important to meet the right guys and be in the right place. All that is in the chart of Giorgio Armani.

The Pattern
The astrological pattern of artistic talent consists of aspects between Moon, Venus, Neptune and Midheaven and placements in the signs corresponding with Moon (Cancer), Venus (Libra, Taurus) and Neptune (Pisces. In this chart the Moon in Cancer is semi sextile Venus and sextile Neptune. Venus is square Neptune. Neptune is Trine the Taurus Midheaven.
Of Moon, Venus and Neptune, the Moon is the most important one. The Moon is in own sign and rises before the Sun. The Sun is highlighting the issue of 'needs'. The Moon is also the final dispositor of Midheaven (Taurus, Venus in Gemini, Mercury in Cancer, Moon in Cancer).

Creativity
There are two quintiles with Midheaven. Sun is quintile Midheaven and so is Mercury. That is telling us that he is a creative thinker and merchandiser or communicator.  He also knows how to draw attention. And he is creative in selling himself!

Company
He started his business during an opposition of Saturn with Sun (questioning yourself if you really are a business man) and with progressed Venus on Midheaven (a wish coming through and the career related to women, style and beauty).

Success:
One of the keys to success is self confidence and belief in your own value. That is why Jupiter-Pluto aspects and midpoints are abundant in the charts of people who moved a few steps on the ladder. Armani has the Sun in aspect with Jupiter and Pluto (wide) and within 2 degrees orb semi square the midpoint Jupiter/Pluto. He completes that with the drive to work hard (Mars trine Saturn).

Chart and talent of Engelbert Humperdinck

This is a blog about Engelbert Humperdinck, now representing the UK in Baku (Eurovision Song contest). Here is the picture of him:

And here is the chart, with transits and progressions for his 7th year of age:

Why his 7th? 

Because, most (if not all) of the artists on this blog have a pattern in the chart. That pattern links Moon, Venus and Neptune to each other and to Midheaven. Often the corresponding signs (Cancer, Libra, Taurus and Pisces) get some accent. And even more often there is a combination of that all. Not so in the chart of Engelbert Humperdinck, however. Now I can start wondering if he really really was born on May 2, 1936 in Madras at exactly 23:48 or I can start finding indications for what he actually did all of his life: performing and singing. Maybe I’d better start to have a more ‘neutral’ look at the chart, as if I didn’t know that it is his. Because then, what you see is this:

-      Uranus, ruler 2,  is very important (rising before the Sun, between Sun and Venus, and conjunct the IC)

-      Venus is also important, though in a ‘wrong’ sign (Aries) because of the square with the Ascendant and Pluto (ruler MC)

-      Pluto is angular, on the Descendant. That is an important position

-      Mercury is calling! There is no major aspect within

sign or orb 5 degrees, and that means that communicating and using pen or voice will be important at any possible level! Mercury is also strong in Gemini. And Mercury happens to be the final ruler of Midheaven (Scorpio-Pluto-Moon-Mercury). Somehow communicating will be important in the profession.

-      The Moon is important because of the opposition with Zero Aries, about to change sign and ‘rush into’ Libra. Now that is one of the ‘artistic signs’! 

BTW For those interested in houses and their rulers: Uranus, ruler 2 is not only the ruler of the house of making money. It is also the ruler of the house of public performance (5 of 10). Mercury is also ruling the 5th house of performance AND the 10th of public. 

With Sun in Taurus (artistic sign) and Moon about to enter Libra, important because of Aries Point, we have two of the artistic signs. Moon and Venus are important, but for the complete pattern of artistic talent, Neptune is still ‘missing’.  And there are no aspects between them, unless we use the very minor 15d aspect between Moon and Neptune. We could do that, but it is like this with minor aspects: they don't SHOW immediately. Apparently, the birth chart of Engelbert Humperdinck wasn’t immediately showing the artist. He BECAME one. In his biography I read about the importance of a saxophone. 

At age 7 his Venus was in the 6^th degree of Taurus, exactly square Ascendant, while Neptune was exactly sextile Midheaven. Transit Pluto was opposition progressed Ascendant and square Uranus. There was a revolutionary change at the time (the introduction of a saxophone, in fact) just at the right moment. Because Venus had moved to the more artistic Taurus, the progressed Moon trine Venus helped to get some sense of style and beauty and transit Neptune on natal Moon opened the gate to sensitivity. Now there was a pattern of artistic talent! (Moon trine Venus and Neptune with natal and progressed Moon. We also see Progressed Venus conjunct natal Uranus (a change of preferences, new toy).

Just like the natal chart of President Obama doesn't immediately show the leader (and the progressed chart DOES, see Astropost: http://astropost.blogspot.com/2010/12/astropost-progressed-chart-and-how-one.html ), the chart of Humperdinck doesn't immediately ring a bell, but the progressed chart of age 7 does. Apparently, circumstances were of importance when choosing a later career. Uranus on IC might be an indication for a slightly different way to make a living than usual in his family (his father was in the army). It had to be different and had to deal with voice or pen (Mercury!).

Chart of Barry Humphries (Dame Edna)

Perez Hilton recently interviewed Barry Humphries, better know as Dame Edna, who announced to sort of retire a bit after the shows of this summer. And Mars is opposition Neptune, just like in Barry Humphries' chart. So time to have a look how the chart shows that he is in show bizz (he is a comedian, artist, author and character actor). Here is the chart and what do we get? I’ll show you where the talent, motivation, vocation and ambition is.

TALENT

First there is the usual pattern of artistic talent: Moon sextile Venus and trine Midheaven; Venus inconjunct Neptune, Moon 157.5 (sesquisquare + half semi square) Neptune. These aspects connect to construct the pattern of artistic professional talent. Moon, Venus, Neptune (and Midheaven) aren’t in the signs ruled by them (Cancer, Taurus, Libra and Pisces). Sun/Moon is in artistic Pisces, conjunct Mercury and Pallas in Pisces. And maybe I should include the minor aspects of Midheaven with Venus (68.7 a wider semi sesquisquare) and Neptune (binovile) to complete the picture of an artistic career.

MOTIVATION

That means that he is being motivated to be a messenger (communicating, writing, talking). Mercury is in Pisces and that makes it easy to tell tales.

VENUS CALLING!

Fun, that is Venus. I am happy to see that  Venus in his chart doesn’t make major aspects in sign or within an orb of 5 degrees. That is what I name a ‘calling’ Venus. People with a calling Venus have a sort of a vocation for what is beautiful, charming, diplomatic, nice or …fun! So now we have the chart of an ambitious person with artistic talent who wants to entertain at any possible level, somehow, anyhow! 

DAME EDNA and SEDNA?

Barry is a comedian and Dame Edna is part of the comedy. Aquarius is frequent in the charts of comedians and Barry is an Aquarian. Uranus biquintile Midheaven is reflecting the creative ‘shock’ for the public. Purple hair IS a shock!:) Dressing up like a lady is always shocking or fun (depending on who watches it). Uranus is the recipe for controversy. But I also like to point at Sedna biquintile Neptune ruler Ascendant and the artist name resembling Sedna: Edna. (Mercury is in Pisces now that I write this blog post and conjunct my Node, sorry, but than you start seeing what rhymes!:)

VITALITY

Barry Humphries is still working at age 78 and that is rather special. The Aquarian Sun in aspect with Jupiter and Uranus (and Jupiter in aspect with Uranus) there is some understanding why: Humphries’ chart has some of the positions of those who reach a more than average age (see Astromarkt: age and astrology). He didn’t do much for it. I read that he did what he had to do as a Mars (in the 1^st house) opposition Neptune  (in the 7^th house!*) person in the 60s: he drank a lot and that ruined his first marriage.

DIVORCES

He married 4 times and his chart has all of the indications for it: Mars semi square Uranus, Venus inconjunct Neptune, Moon semi square Saturn and 157.5 Neptune. Those are all of the 4 possible signs of divorce in a males’ chart! Gender neutral is the opposition between ruler 1 and 7 in this chart. Yes, Barry Humphries’ chart got what it takes to get divorced.

SATURN

Barry Humphries’ chart shows that he is ambitious (Saturn rises before the Sun) and that his parents were important for who he became later (but not by following into their footsteps,, but by taking another road). It is interesting that his father was a construction (Saturn!) manager (Saturn!). Another way to express Saturn’s prominence is of course: getting old. And maybe (but I’m just guessing) he is much more serious in what he does than we expect a comedian to be.

They say that there is humor in Capricorn and Saturn.

TRANSIT SATURN ENDS

Right now Transit Neptune is semi square the midpoint of natal Asc/MC. That is often an indication for a moment of retirement. Mind if I point at transit Saturn trine the Sun and square Progressed Midheaven in September? Saturn ends, just like this story.

It is Pisces time, time to add the chart of Kurt Cobain to the number of chats of artists, musicians, actors and directors etc. etc. on this blog. A complete study of the transits and progressions at vital moments of change in the life of Kurt Cobain has now been published on Astromarkt. Here you see the natal chart with transits and progressions for his birthday in 1991, when he started to become more famous than he wanted.

Today is the birthday of Jon Bon Jovi and it surprised me that I hadn’t added his chart to Art-astrology.blogspot.com before. In the 90's I always had Bon Jovi on when I was cleaning the house (yes, the music helps you to keep the faith with any job!). So here it is:

Artists (professionals) always have the pattern of artistic talent in their chart. You know: the signs ruled by Moon, Venus and Neptune (Cancer, Libra, Taurus and Pisces) on the angles or with placementes of the Moon, Venus and/or Midheaven, and... the Moon, Venus and Neptune related to Midheaven.

Chart of Bill Cosby

This is the natal chart of Bill Cosby, a talented actor (and comedian, author, television producer, educator, musician and activist).  We can see that he works in an artistic profession. The Moon (trine), Venus (biquintile) and Neptune (trine) are in aspect with Midheaven. That links the career to talent. Venus/Neptune midpoint is semi square the Moon. And Pallas is elevated with Jupiter: he is the positive role model. Even the importance of home and family life - the main subject of everything that he does - can be found. Sun/Moon midpoint is conjunct Vesta (keeper of the fire place) and AC/MC midpoint is opposition Vesta and Sun/Moon. Vesta is in the fifth house of show and entertainment to show us that his performances are about what is ‘domestic’.

We could stop here: a positive artistic role model of family life, but there is more, like the well aspected Uranus rising before the Sun and Venus and trine Midheaven (independence) or the opposition of Mercury and Pallas (a pattern of communications).

Maybe it is good to have a look at Venus sextile Saturn (ruler MC), because he does one man shows. In Dutch comedians are part of ‘kleinkunst’ (small art, literally). It is not meant as an insult! It means: performing art for entertainment. Venus is the symbol of entertainment and artists. Saturn is the symbol of 'small'. Venus-Saturn combinations often appear in the charts of similar kind of artists. Venus’ biquintile with Midheaven again shows a creative way to entertain the public.

If this was not the chart of Bill Cosby, but of any other man, it would be the chart of an optimist, a positive person, an international above all with an independent view. Jupiter and Uranus are prominent in this chart. They symbolize the helicopter view and the inventive mind. I also like Mercury quintile Uranus (a creative way of saying controversial or new things ....or creating new ideas and words). 

And what’s that Quaoar doing, inconjunct his Ascendant? Maybe creating a new perspective (but a little ‘overdone’:)? 

Perhaps there is more to mention, like the combination of Mercury, Jupiter and Pluto for the successful communications. But I stop here. A positive role model, motivated by the family and working with talent, creatively entertaining the public...that is how one can work with the possibilities of this natal chart. It can even be 'done' shorter: he has the capability (biquintile) to enjoy (Venus) the public (MC) and make people laugh. 

When he started his career in entertainment, transit Pholus and transit Jupiter were opposition his progressed Sun. He was at a positive turning point in life! That was 50 years ago and he's still working!

The positions in the chart of Van Morrison clearly show the pattern of the professional artistic talent (composed by minor or major aspects of Moon, Venus and Neptune and the signs of their rulership with Midheaven). Let's see:

Chart, progressions and transits of today, Dec 18, 2011

There is the Midheaven in Pisces (sign ruled by Neptune) exactly trine Moon in Cancer (ruled by Moon) and inconjunct Venus in Leo. That would already be a statement, but there is more. Neptune, ruler of Midheaven, is in aspect with Venus (sextile) and Moon (square). Ruler MC Neptune is in Libra and in the fifth house of entertainment. It is a more than complete pattern.

There is more to see in this chart. For example, the position of the Moon in the 12th house for the need for privacy.Right now tabloids report about the loss of a lover and their child this year.

Van Morrison is famous for 'Brown Eyed Girl'. The latest album release was in 2009.

Paul Gauguin and Vincent van Gogh: Neptune in Pisces

On this blog you see many astrogical patterns of artistic talent. These patterns are created by aspects between Moon, Venus and Neptune, the signs that they rule (Cancer, Libra, Taurus and Pisces) and Midheaven (for the professional). Now that Neptune is in Pisces it is time to have a look at the chart of two famous painter with a prominent Neptune in Pisces in the natal chart: Paul Gauguin and Vincent van Gogh.

PAUL GAUGUIN

Above is the chart of Paul Gauguin and here is the artistic pattern in his chart: Moon opposition Neptune in Pisces and both square Venus, ruler of the Taurus Midheaven and elevated. The Moon is semisesquisquare Midheaven and Neptune 75 degrees MC. The midpoint Moon/Venus is in hard aspect with Neptune. And I like to point at the prominent positions of the three players in the artistic pattern: Moon on the Ascendant, Neptune on the Descendant and Venus elevated! This chart is screaming that an artist was born. The chart doesn't speak of long life or steady marriages, however. Gauguin left his wife and children (Moon opposition Neptune and Venus square Neptune are part of the pattern of the artist AND part of the pattern of the divorced man). 

Did you know that he lived with Vincent van Gogh for a while? Gauguin's Jupiter was exactly conjunct the Ascendant of Van Gogh and that is a supporting aspect. In the end, the mental state of Van Gogh was too much for Gauguin, however. BTW, Van Gogh also has Neptune in Pisces! Here is his chart:

Natal chart Van Gogh

The Moon (disposing of the Cancer Ascendant) is exactly square the midpoint Venus/Neptune and square Midheaven in Pisces. The Moon is also inconjunct the Ascendant and that describes the unbalanced emotions. It is a different kind of pattern and a completely different chart. The Sun is not making major aspects and that is telling us that Vincent van Gogh knew how to draw attention at any possible level, like a modern 'star'. 

I wonder in what way Neptune in Pisces attributed to the style of both Gauguin and Van Gogh. They were contemporary painters and friends for a while, that is what I know.

We all know Meat Loaf! Sun without major aspects in sign or orb 5 degrees means that he is drawing attention at any possible level. Leaders and stars have such a sun! The elevated Jupiter square Midheaven goes for success. (The Sun semi square the orientational Saturn (rising before the Sun and on Descendant) might explain some of the difficulties in his life and career, such as with his father - an alcoholic-).

Chart of Stephen King and his new book

Stephen King is writing a novel about the murder of John F. Kennedy. Title: 11/22/63. Release: November 2011. 

Stephen King's natal A-rated chart is here. With Midheaven opposition Mercury and Neptune we already notice the importance of 'making up stories' for his career. The trine of Pluto adds suspense. Venus is 'calling' (in sign conjunct Quaoar = new worlds of fun) and in Libra to illustrate entertainment and style at any possible level. Moon and Venus are 75 degrees apart.  We also see Moon sesquisqemisquare Neptune. Minor aspects often have a lot of impact. The tightest aspect is Mars opposition Pholus and  trine Jupiter for a lot of drive to make a change.

Stephen King is a specialist in horror stories. I like to 'blame' the orientational Mars, Saturn and Pluto (rising before his sun)  for a focus on unnatural death.

Presently, the progressed Sun changed sign and right now transit Uranus is trine his progressed Sun (I guess for being in the news with his novel-to-be). The midpoint of transit Mars and Pholus was square natal Mars.  Indeed, a nasty (Saturn) turning point (Pholus) that could have been a ' death end' (Mars-Saturn). The astrological question is: did transit Jupiter square his Ascendant and inconjunct his Sun save him or was Jupiter the symbol of the 'horse power' that hit him?

Anyway, transit Pholus is now sesquisquare his progressed AC/MC midpoint an that is a statement for a general turning point (and maybe just telling us that he will be moving to another place:).

Chart of Phil Collins (now that he stops)

Phil Collins definitely stops playing the music. See Anglophenia about it...He said that the music won't miss him. Phil Collins attributed a lot to pop music and had many fans, however. 

Pluto is often involved in 'come backs'. In 2010, Phil Collins released the album named 'Going back' (...). The inconjunction is the symbol of loosing balance, losts and giving up. I read that his I think that the transit of Pluto inconjunct his Midheaven 'helps' to devaluate his own achievements and is illustrating the difficult position and (physical) conditions. Before that (in 2010) I mentioned:

I see Progressed Midheaven inconjunct Mars (for loss of muscle/energy or having to give up working). Progressed Ascendant is inconjunct Venus, Progressed Venus square Midheaven, Transit Neptune sextile progressed Mars.  Except for the last mentioned transit the indications are only valid for an AA-rated chart. There is one big indication for a sudden change: progressed Sun is square Uranus.  And if the B-rated chart is correct, this sudden change went along with a difficult inconjunction of Mars. Mars happens to be important for someone who is hitting drums. That is because Mars is the symbol of striking, hitting and using tools.

Now there is also transit Saturn square natal Mercury. Saturn square Mercury has never been the symbol of the optimistic idea (sometimes even 'doom thinking') and often accompanies a hard decission, like a farewell (saying = Mercury and stop, quit, goodbye = Saturn). Saturn-Mercury is also the combination of the writer's block.

Chart of Andy Warhol and the synastry with Valerie Solanas

Andy Warhol was a Leo with Leo Ascendant. But even if you don't believe in sun signs anymore, the chart shows that a star was born. You see it on the chart drawing: he was born when the Sun was rising. That means that the Sun is prominent (on the Ascendant). The Sun is a star, so : it is the sign of a star or a leader. He sure knew how to draw attention (another meaning of a prominent Sun) and how to be of influence. This influence was too strong for Valerie Solanas, the woman who shot him in 1968 after he lost her manuscript. There is an important position for Pholus in the chart of Andy Warhol, the man who introduced pop arts.
Pholus is the symbol of the turning point (and shooting your own feet). Inconjunctions refer to lack of balance and losts.

In Warhol's chart Pholus is exactly trine Neptune (creating a turning point in arts), inconjunct Mars and Sun/Moon. And that is perhaps even more illustrating the kind life of Warhol who suffered after being shot (…) by a mentally ill woman (he lost her manuscript and she said that Warhol had to much influence on her...see Pluto's position) and who died in hospital. He was very afraid of hospitals (Pluto in the 12th house).

Her natal Uranus was conjunct his natal Midheaven (meaning: she changed his perspectives and condition) and her Pholus sesquisquare his Mars (turning point in his energy level), with her Jupiter trine his Venus (supporting his style) and his Neptune inconjunct her Venus (maybe that is the resonation of the lost piece of art). Very interesting is that her Pholus is inconjunct his natal Sun (meeting her meant an unbalancing turning point for him…).

For a long time I haven't listened to my CD's. Now that I synchronised my Ipod I rediscovered Gavin Friday and I started looking for the date of birth to see the pattern of artistic talent (for I am sure that he hás it:)! I enjoy the sound of 'Angel' while I am writing this.


First thing that you see watching this chart is: the Sun has no major aspects in sign or orb 5 degrees. That is a 'calling' Sun and that is the signature of performance, being a leader or a star, drawing attention. And the pattern?

Moon is trine Venus and both are sextile Neptune (a small trine).

It has been a long time. Time for another example of the pattern of artistic talents in a natal chart. All charts here have such a pattern.
