There hadn't been a chart of a rapper on this blog before, so here it is. You see the chart, progressions and transits of Lil Wayne.

Those are the transits of rapper Lil Wayne, perfectly showing us the fame of the moment (with disbalance as a result of it) and the situation next Tuesday: he will have to appear in court for illegal possesion of a weapon and he might end up in jail. His hour of birth is unknown, so there is few information about his natal chart. Still there are indications for rapping. It takes words, sense of rhythm and artistic talents. He got it:

1. Mercury doesn't make major aspects in sign. I name that a 'calling' Mercury. A calling Mercury refers to communication skills. Jupiter also doesn't make major aspects in sign. A calling Jupiter, together with a calling Mercury points at success in using pen or voice at any possible level.

Walt Whitman has a statue in Moscow now and I have his chart to share with you. Walt Whitman was a homosexual and therefore controversial poet. Professional artistic talent in a chart is indicated by aspects or other connections between Moon, Venus, Neptune and Midheaven. These are the indications for artistic talent in Walt Whitman's chart:

1. Moon trine Neptune for sense of art and finetuned feelings
2. Venus in Taurus for style and beauty
3. Venus conjunct Ascendant for the prominence of style
4. Venus without major or minor aspects (! calling Venus!) for style and pleasure as an important issue

5. Sun rules 5th house of creativity and is square AC/MC
6. Jupiter is half semisquare AC/MC

Whitman was a poet, so he needed words in his job. Mercury is in aspect with his Midheaven. He was controversial for being openly gay (Sun quindecile = 165 degrees - Uranus and semi square Mars; Mars trine Uranus). There are a few keys for not getting married as usual, like Moon in the 5th house inconjunct Saturn and of course the Mars-Uranus connection. The Neptune-Uranus aspect with progressed Midheaven right now is an indication for the controversial effect of the statue in Moscow right now.

WHY NOW?
The Moscow statue is news now that Whitman's chart has a Jupiter return with Jupiter inconjunct IC like in the natal chart. Jupiter is the planet of success and of traveling or the international setting.

Astrology chart Vaclav Havel (playwright)

When you see the natal chart of Vaclav Havel (former President of the Czech Republic, born October 5 1936 at about 15:00 hours) you immediately see the political leader*). Perhaps that is why when we are asked who Havel is, we think of the President first.

But Vaclav Havel also is a playwright and poet (after studying drama). That part of Havel is shown by the fact that Mercury (planet of the writer) doesn't make major aspects in sign while Neptune's oriental position is reflecting the imaginary world of fantasy, beliefs and idealism. There is also the Moon in Gemini (need to communicate) in the 5th house of creativity, square Neptune (fantasy, fiction) and Neptune septile Venus. Venus is half semisquare and Neptune is quintile the Midheaven. Here we have a complete pattern of artistic talent used as a professon!

However, Mercury only makes a soft aspect with Midheaven. Pluto is trine Midheaven (out of sign) and Mars makes a square. His career involved political (Pluto) discussions (Mercury-Mars) and later in life he remained political active (Mars-Pluto). But I think he uses creative thinking to be good at it!

Guy de Maupassant was a writer and a poet, born August 5, 1850 at 8:00 a.m. LMT im Miromesnil. It doesn't matter when you were born. The same planets, signs, positions and aspects tell about the astrological pattern of artistic talents. In the chart of De Maupassant the pattern is like this:

1. He has an elevated Moon
2. The Moon is in Cancer (strong in own sign)

Astrology chart Emperor Nero

'What an artist is dying with me' said Nero, at the end of his notorious life. He had a high opinion about his artistic talent as a poet. In his chart you see connections between Moon, Venus and Neptune. These connections are frequent in the charts of artists that you find on this blog 'Art&Astrology'. Moon, Venus and Neptune are related by minor aspects (160 degrees, 15 degrees; not Ptolemaic aspects like trines, for example). These kind of aspects often show characteristics that are not apparent but latent.

In this case there is also an aspect with Midheaven (Moon sextile) and we see Mercury semi square Midheaven and Sun/Moon-midpoint. That shows that he wanted to be a writer in heart and soul. Unfortunately his violent nature was much more prominent in his chart. Frederico Garcia Lorca is a Spanish poet, executed during the Spanish Civil War (Guerra Civil). This blog Art & Astrology is about the 'artist in the natal chart'. The artistic talents of García Lorca are reflected by the prominence of the Moon, Venus and Neptune. These three objects do not make Ptolemaic aspects in sign or orb 5 degrees. Unaspected objects are what I name 'calling' planets or lights. They draw attention and have a prominent effect. Astrology chart of William B. Yeats

William B. Yeats was an Irish poet, born in Dublin om June 13, 1865 at 22h40 LMT and that is exactly with Mercury opposition Midheaven and rising before the Sun. Mercury is the symbol of the author.

The art in the chart can be found in the prominent Venus in Taurus, conjunct Pluto and Pallas. This trio is at the lowest (crucial) spot of the chart. If it is not enough to see communication talent and a talent to discover patterns, there is even more. The distance between Sun and Neptune is 72 degrees, a creative quintile. Moon and Neptune are connected by a septile. And see how Venus and Pluto are square Mars! This combination intensifies passion. Venus semi square Uranus tells us about his sense of rhythm.

William B. Yeats was not only an artist, he was also a senator. See Saturn, the most elevated planet...He just needed to have a decent position in society. With the Moon in Aquarius, trine Saturn, there is a need to contribute to the welphare of the society in a more practical way.

Those are famous words about astrology and they are written by Lord Tennyson in 'Maud'. He is considered to be the second best poet of England (Shakespeare is number one:). In his natal chart there are indications for his talent:

1. Neptune is 'calling' (not making major aspects in sign or orb 5 degrees)
2. Moon is oriental for the emotional approach
3. Moon and Mercury are in mutual reception: mood and intelligence, emotions and communications go together
4. Sun opposition Jupiter/Neptune: drawing attention to an audience using imagination
5. Moon/Venus is related to Mars and Uranus for a sense of art related to techniques and rythm.

If this very round hour of birth is correct, his techniques should have been crucial for his position and fame. In this chart you see a man with a vocation for the amorphous (belief, ideals or arts) and an emotional orientation. He has an audience or public. And techniques related to sense of art defined his position. What I missed in this chart was the planet of estetics and style, Venus, but my computer told me that Venus is exactly in the middle of ASC/MC.

Uranus on the IC
But I have no idea if he knew how to calculate or read a chart.

BTW Venus inconjunction Saturn: he married late (as his father seemed to have tried to stop it) and he had a late 'coming out' as a poet he daren't not.

Astrology chart Rabindranath Tagore

I know nothing about Rabindranath Tagore, born 7th May 1861 at 4:02 LMT in Calcutta. He was in my Astrolab database and the subtitle was: philosopher and a poet. In his birth chart, using the Astro I.D. method, I can see that he was, easily, even though I use western astrology:).

Look at Sun conjunct Venus, both prominent (as they are semi square Aries Point). Look at Neptune, calling (not making major aspects in sign or orb 5 degrees), spot on Aries Point!^ With that, Neptune is two times important and prominent...
The important Neptune is semi square the important Venus. And look at Mercury <> (Mutual reception) Mars, the end dispositors of the MC! Here we already have it all:
- a call for arts at any possible level
- a life going together with estetics
- discussions, techniques (for the philosopher)

Pluto is oriental. I wondered what the meaning of Pluto here was, as Pluto is the symbol of life and death, politics, influence, prizes (and the price to pay) and power, etc. So I searched for it on Wikipedia. There I found that he also had political significance and was the first person born in India who won a Nobel Prize.

Neptune, the romantic planet (killing you softly)

In the charts of most artist, Neptune has a major role. Neptune is connected to fantasy, dreams, visions and everything that is in the mind (amorphous). This article is about a poet and a woman who inspired him to write one of his best poems.

Let me introduce you into the world of romantic love. Once upon a time there was a poet in my country (Herman Gorter) who wrote a very impressive poem about the death of a female friend. It was called 'In the black night' and it describes the way she died, drowning herself. I cannot fully translate it, and what I present to you will not be 'arty', but I will give an impression of the sentences that I like most of all.
In the black night
a human being came
the black nightly clouds drifted
the black nightly trees bended
and the wind blew, heavy and wearing black mourning clothes
(...)

she was standing, very still
and the tree, born long ago,
had guessed it by then -
and the wind and the clouds stood still
they had not thought of it before,
or else they would not have flown
and they would not have taken her there

Wow, that is romance.

Herman was a friend of the family and he was struck by the death of the young singer, Anna Witsen, on March 5, 1889. She threw herself into the water, because of grieve out of love for a married man. And I have her chart.


She was born February 3, 1855 at 11:00 LMT in Amsterdam, the sister of a painter. She was talented and well known. Venus was high up in her chart, Jupiter was oriental. You can easily see the drama in her chart:

1 Passion!
Venus conjunct Mars (for passion) square Moon and Ascendant (unusual passionate behavior)
2. Emotion!
Prominent Moon in Leo, tightly square Ascendant, with only oppositions (for the troublesome drama queen; that was perfect on stage, less welcome at home…)

Please consider the period in time (the ROMANTIC period) and the position of women (who should not be involved with married men, if they ever wished to be married themselves).And who knows, maybe she was pregnant.

SATURN AND NEPTUNE
On March 5, 1889, the ticking biological clock in the shape of Saturn was opposition her natal Sun and inconjunct Neptune. (Do we see something sick, sad and ill?)
Neptune was of importance that day. Her natal sun was semi sextile Neptune. And there was transit Sun conjunct Neptune that day, to activate the issue. And yes, transit Neptune was also square her progressed Midheaven for the illusions.

It is unusual 'romance', even for the romantic 19th century. Her tragic death inspired one of Holland’s' best poets and that is why I posted it. Her Neptune was trine his MC**). Suicide may be a source of inspiration, but for most of us, the ultimate effect of a sad Neptune can be missed, like tooth ache!

PS In the chart of Anna, Venus-Mars is 75 degrees from Uranus, adding a sort of an obsession or compulsion to the passion (and maybe this is relating the passion to an impulse?).
