The talent in the chart of Gabriel Fauré

Gabriel Fauré's chart has the astrologicial pattern of talent:

Moon in Cancer
Venus in Taurus
Moon sextile Venus
Moon inconjunct Neptune
Venus trine Midheaven

He was 72 when he was honored with an homage:

Here is his picture.
It seems that he was extremely attractive for the ladies of his days. He was married and had a mistress.

He has a Taurus Ascendant and Venus is square Saturn. For some reason, attractive males have a cool side (Capricorn, Saturn) and Taurus is often involved. See this: http://astropost.blogspot.nl/2008/09/male-attraction-venus-saturn-taurus-and.html
Moon inconjunct Neptune and Mars sextile Uranus and the wider square Venus-Neptune are 3 of the 4 aspect combinations that make it hard to be true and stick to one partner. Moon-Neptune and Venus-Neptune also happen to be aspect combinations of artistic talent. Artistic talent and romantic affairs seem to have to belong together:)!

Day of birth of Gavin Friday

For a long time I haven't listened to my CD's. Now that I synchronised my Ipod I rediscovered Gavin Friday and I started looking for the date of birth to see the pattern of artistic talent (for I am sure that he hás it:)! I enjoy the sound of 'Angel' while I am writing this.

First thing that you see watching this chart is: the Sun has no major aspects in sign or orb 5 degrees. That is a 'calling' Sun and that is the signature of performance, being a leader or a star, drawing attention. And the pattern?

Moon is trine Venus and both are sextile Neptune (a small trine).

There is no hour of birth, so there is no information about the Ascendant, angular positions or the midpoints Sun/Moon and AC/MC. And no info about the aspects with Midheaven...But the basic pattern is apparently there. Here is the chart of the day of birth:

Astrology chart Andrew Lloyd Webber

Composer Andrew Lloyd Webber was born into an artistic family. That is why we see Ceres (symbol of the roots and genes) conjunct Midheaven (career, profession) and both conjunct Venus (talent, style).

The astrological pattern of artistic talent is build by aspects between Moon, Venus, Neptune and Midheaven and related to the signs ruled by Moon, Venus and Neptune. In the chart of Andrew Lloyd Webber the pattern is as follows:

Taurus on Midheaven
Venus conjunct Midheaven
Venus in Taurus
Venus biquintile Neptune (creative artistic talent!)
Moon semi square Neptune (sensitivity)
Venus final dispositor of the Midheaven routing
Moon conjunct Ascendant
Jupiter is ruler of the 5th house of creations and is rising before the Sun

The Sun doesn't make major aspects in sign and is positioned on Aries Point. That is an indication for drawing attention, for show, for leadership and for the 'star'.

This is not a complete reading of a chart. It is just to show you the major keys to the talent of this artist.

Astrology chart Camille Saint-Saëns

Camille Saint-Saëns was born October 9, 1835 in Paris. 'Cirkels' by Jan Kampherbeek gives this chart:

Notice that Venus is connecting the Midheaven, ruling the dispositor of Midheaven and making a minor aspect with Neptune. There is an artistic pattern. Here you see the amount of indications:

Sun and Moon are in signs ruled by Venus (Taurus and Libra)
The Ascendant is in Libra
The Moon is in Taurus
The Moon in Taurus rules the Cancer Midheaven
Venus is in Libra
Venus is the final dispositor of the MC-routing (Cancer, Moon in Taurus, Venus in Libra)
Venus is conjunct Ascendant
Neptune is conjunct IC
Venus is 105 degrees from Neptune (sextile + semisquare)
Cancer is on Midheaven
Uranus is inconjunct Midheaven (from the equal 5th house ruling the equal 5th)
Neptune is opposition Sun/Moon (a midpoint yod pointing at Neptune)

SATURN for classical
Camille Saint-Saëns is a classical composer. Saturn is conjunct his Ascendant and square his MC. His music had to be conform certain standards and was serious by nature. Saturn is important in the charts of classical musicians and singers. Their music has 'status' and is timeless. He was so serious that he thought that 'Carnaval des Animaux' should not be performed as it was not serious enough!

Even though Sun and Venus are in aspect with the combination of success (Jupiter and Pluto), he may not have regarded himself as a successful person. His two children died, and his marriage was a failure. Perhaps that is reflecting the influence of Saturn on the Ascendant. The Ascendant is the window to the outside world and to others. Saturn is the 'dementor' (using a Harry Potter idea:), chilling and depressing, too serious, too 'stiff' to be able to see the good things in life and on the other hand: bad luck. His father died before he was born, his children died and he ended lonely, with no other company than his pupil Fauré. Saturn is semi square the crucial midpoint AC/MC. Fatherhood and fathers (responsibility) is reflected by Saturn, too. So is being alone.

JUPITER for traveling
It is interesting to see that Saint-Saëns was more popular outside his own country than he was in France. Jupiter, planet of traveling, is rising before his Sun to reflect an international orientation. In his homeland he had a lot of competition coming from Debussy (whose Mars - the symbol of competition - is close to the Descendant of Camille Saint-Saëns). Edgar Fauré was his student.

Here you see a piece of his works that says more than words:

Astrology chart Igor Stravinsky

The astrological pattern of artistic talent consists of:
Venus, Neptune, the Moon and the signs that belong to them (Taurus, Libra, Pisces and Cancer) in aspect with each other and the Midheaven...The quintile and biquintile have the meaning of 'creative connection' and the quindecile (165 degrees, but also 75 and 105 degrees) shows a strong focus. You will notice that all of the charts of artists (writers, composers and actors) on this blog have such a pattern. So has Igor Stravinsky. It is his birthday today and google.com features a Google doodle to honor him. Art&Astrology honours him with the reading of his chart today:).

PATTERN OF THE ARTIST
Composer Igor Sravinsky was born June 17, 1882 in Oranienbaum at 8:29 GMT with the Moon and Venus in Cancer. This position increases sense of arts and feeling 'what the people need'. Venus was conjunct the midpoint ASC/MC, the cross point of horizon and meridian (Midheaven). That means that style, beauty and entertainment was crucial for the person born at this hour and place. Venus is in aspect with Neptune, a 167.5 degree aspect (sesquisquare + half semi square). And then of course Neptune is also in aspect with ASC/MC (a 67.5 degree aspect, a sesqui semi square). Finally, Neptune is half semi square Moon, the final dispositor of Midheaven.

SUCCESSES
In the 45-degree range these are the seven indications for success in the midpoint combinations:

Sun conjunct Mercury/Jupiter (successful communications)
Moon semi square Jupiter/Neptune (popular, having fans, devotion)
Venus semi square Jupier/MC
Jupiter conjunct Sun/Pluto
Northern Node opposition Jupiter/Neptune
Midheaven conjunct Jupiter/Pluto
Midheaven semi square Mars/Jupiter

There are nine more in the 22.5 degree range, a total of 16 indications that could not be missed! Complete this with Jupiter and Pluto on either side of Midheaven and the picture is clear.

INTERNATIONAL CONDUCTOR
When you look at the picture of the chart, you see that Jupiter is on top (square Ascendant), rising before the Sun and half semi square Sun/Moon. Jupiter is the symbol of successes, travelling and 'the international', but also of 'guiding'. Stravinsky was, apart from a composer, also a conductor. He was born in Russia, he has been French and he died as an American: he was an international, too.

To conduct an orchestra you need to have leading and guiding qualities. Stravinsky had them. He had a prominent Jupiter and the Sun is 112.5 degrees (square+ half semi square) ASC/MC. To be in the middle of attention was of crucial importance. So was success. But the combination of being famous and being an international also had it's less pleasant sides. His self confidence was sometimes disproportionate. He could be rather arrogant.

ARROGANCE?
In the natal chart the Sun is inconjunct Jupiter, so this aspect 'perfected'. The inconjunction is the aspect of the 'but...'. Sun-Jupiter refers to self confidence (if not arrogance) and to the will to travel, succeed and grow. Perhaps it was not easy for him to deal with his success and that explains his attitude towards servants. Success perhaps got him out of balance**).
Another indication for arrogance (in the eyes of others) is Uranus conjunct Ascendant, symbolizing a presentation that might irritate others. The usual interpretation of the angular Uranus is 'being friendly to everyone regardless status, race ...' but I don't think that that is true. Uranus is not 'friendly', Venus is nice. Uranus'influence makes rather distant, independent, an individualist, different from the rest, not a 'follower'. Other people might feel uneasy when they meet a person with Uranus on the horizon. They are so 'different' and 'strange'. Stravinsky, of course, was a stranger in NY. He was 58 when he became an American. In whatever he did, he would be 'different'.

OBSESSIONAL REPEAT AND RETURN
The work of Stravinsky used to be considered as 'revolutionary'. Look at the drawing: Uranus and Pluto are on the angles. Together they symbolize dramatic change (revolution). The combination of Jupiter, Uranus and Pluto as most prominently placed planets might be 'read' as: sudden, unexpected great success or revolutionary success. There is a 105 degree aspect between Uranus and Pluto. Wikipedia quotes Paul Griffiths regarding Stravinsky's works using the words 'obsessional need to repeat and return'. One of the characteristics of Pluto is the 'come back' (reverse) and of Uranus: repeating (a signal). The products of an artist strongly relate to the personality of the artist.
With Uranus and Pluto angular you are bound to be influencial and original. With Sun/Moon in aspect with Saturn classical music is not far away. Uranus conjunct Ascendant adds rhythm and something new. The semi square between Sun and Uranus tells us that he always wanted to be different from the rest (and was controversial in a way).

ARREST
No one can have a prominent Uranus and Pluto (and in aspect with each other) without being controversial or without being arrested. On April 15, 1940 Stravinsky was arrested in Boston because of reharmonization of the National Antheme. That was with transit Uranus square Progressed Sun (for the upheavel and for being in the news), activating the existing natal semi square between Sun and Uranus.

MARRIAGE
I like to point at Venus in Cancer. Often this position of Venus leads to marrying a person that you knew from childhood, someone to remember. Also Ceres (symbol of the roots and genes) is in the seventh house of marriage.
Igor Stravinsky married a family member in 1906. His wife Katarina Nossenko. She died in 1938 after a long period of illness (Tuberculosis) when progressed Midheaven was conjunct his natal Venus. The midpoint Saturn/Neptune is related to disease. Venus is sesqui-semi-square this midpoint. The conjunction of the Midheaven with Venus reveals that a new period in his love life started.

In 1921 he met Vera de Bosset, a dancer who divorced her husband for him and married him in 1940, after the death of his wife. It is not unusual for an artist to have affairs. The combination of artistic talent (Venus-Neptune) is also one of the indications for a divorce in the charts of males.*) Pisces is a 'double sign' and Pisces is on the cusp of the seventh house of marriage. Another indication is Uranus on the Ascendant (opposition Descendant) for an unusual relationship. The fact that he did not divorce could be attributed to the position of the ruler of Pisces (Neptune) in the fixed sign Taurus.

There is so much more to say about the life and chart of Igor Stravinsky. Blogs have to be short, however. The life of Stravinsky was very long. He died April 4, 1971 with transit Saturn conjunct Saturn, the aspect that shows us the disadvantages of age and time...

*)
The aspects for no or more than 1 marriage in a woman's chart are:
- Sun afflicting or conjunct Mars or Uranus,
- Venus afflicting or conjunct Uranus and/or
- Mars afflicting or conjunct Saturn
- and/or afflictions between the 1st and 7th house
When there 3 or more of such indications, the woman might prefer to remain single.

In a male's chart the indications are:
- Moon in conflict with Saturn
- Moon in conflict with Neptune
- Venus in conflict with Neptune
- Mars in conflict with Uranus
- and/or afflictions between the 1st and 7th house

Astrology chart Jean Sibelius

Jean Sibelius was a composer born December 8, 1865 at 21h30 in Tavastehus in Finland. The astrological pattern of artistic talent is like this:

1. Taurus Midheaven
2. Moon biquintile Venus (for creative sense of style)
3. Crucial position of the Moon (popularity and 'sense for what the people need')
4. Venus biquintile Uranus (for sense of rhythm)
5. Venus quindecile MC (obsession or focus on an artistic profession)
6. Neptune square ASC/MC (crucial vision, fantasy and empathy: art)
7. Jupiter semi square Venus/Pluto (great success in art or in love)

Sibelius is the Finish composer who is the most characteristic for the Finish identity. Why?
1. Pluto (symbol of politics) is on the Midheaven.
2.The Moon (symbol of the people and roots) is on the Ascendant.
3. The Sun sheds her light in the fourth house of family, country and background.

Astrology chart Pjotr Tchaikovsky

The natal chart of Pjotr (Peter) Tchaikovsky demonstrates the artistic talent as follows:

The Moon is in Cancer (that makes him more sensitive)
The Moon is square Venus (for sense of art)
Venus is quintile Neptune (for creative artistic talents)
Ruler Midheaven is in Pisces (for a career related to fantasy, vision or ideas)

And for the fact that he was a classical composer with a decent education we see Saturn oppposition Sun/Moon. Saturn is the symbol of what is classical and 'official'.

His Midheaven in Aquarius could point at peculiarities or modern ideas. Wikipedia mentions that he wanted to remain 'independent'. Independence is symbolised by Aquarius.

Astrology chart Johann Sebastian Bach

Composer Johann Sebastian Bach is very popular in March and April of every year, when the Mattheus Passion is performed in many theaters and churches. The artistic pattern in his chart has the same ingredients as those of the other artists on this blog:

1. Venus in the artistic and empathic sign Pisces
2. Moon conjunct Neptune for sense of art
3. Neptune in the sign of Neptune (Pisces) is the first outer planet rising before the Sun for ideals, visions and fantasy before all the rest
4. Venus is quintile Midheaven (for creative talent related to the career)
5. Distance Venus-Neptune is 15 degrees
6. Venus half semi square ASC/MC
7. Venus inconjunct Jupiter and trine Pluto (Jupiter square Pluto); the combination Venus-Jupiter-Pluto means great success in entertainment or art. Venus is also related to Jupiter/MC and to Pluto/MC.
8. Mercury conjunct Venus combines communications with style
9. Midheaven trine Uranus (and quintile Venus)...Venus and Uranus together show sense of rhythm. The combination is frequent in the charts of singers and musicians.
10. The crucial Sun on Ascendant rules the 5th house in the equal house chart. The 5th hous is the house of games, plays and entertainment.
11. I count more than 15 midpoint combinations with Jupiter (success indicators).
12. Ruler MC Saturn would be in the 5th equal house (and is in the Placidus 6th).

And then there is Sun inconjunct Saturn ruler Midheaven and that reminds me that I must mention that he died poor and that his wife and children in very poor conditions. It took the world 75 years to recongnize the value of his works. There was success in art (Venus-Jupiter), but...it was Venus INCONJUNCT Jupiter. Sadly.

About the effect of the inconjunction, see http://astropost.blogspot.com/2009/01/effect-of-inconjunction.html

Astrology chart of Maurice Ravel

The Bolero of Maurice Ravel is world famous. Ravel was born in 1875 but his music is still modern. Uranus on the Midheaven mirrors the man ahead of his time.

The artistic pattern is clear. The Moon is in Pisces, semi square Venus and Venus is square Neptune (out of sign). The Moon is biquintile Midheaven. This is already enough to see sense of beauty and style. And it shows artistic talent, creatively related to the careeer.

Ravel had several long lasting relationships but never married. I like to point at Pluto in the seventh house (making marriage a challenge or a must). This Pluto is exactly square Saturn. Saturn is the planet of restrictions and fear. Possibly he was to scared to be bound to one person only.

Astrology chart day of birth Samuel Barber

Samuel Barber, the man who composed 'Adagio for Strings',a very touching and popular work, wrote his mother that he wanted to be a composer when he was only 9 years old. It is a pity that his hour of birth is unavailable, but still, there is enough 'evidence' that the chart of 9 March 1910 is his.

PATTERN
The Moon is rising before the Sun and is in Aquarius, just like Venus is. Pallas is right in between Moon and Venus. Venus is inconjunct Neptune. Here you see part of the pattern of artistic talent. He was born on a day that indicated the possible birth of a person with artistical (Neptune) talent and sense of rhythm (Venus Aquarius) and feeling (Moon-Venus) for patterns (Pallas).

INFLUENCES WHEN YOUNG
That artistic talent came from his mother (a pianist). His aunt (contralto) was married to a composer. Watch Ceres, rising before the Sun. Ceres is the symbol of genes and (as I believe) of the 'big mother-figure', just like the Moon reflects education (the early years) and private (family) situations as seen in the eyes of the 'beholder'. The importance influence of family and genes is evident and translated in the chart as the importance of the symbols of family, genes and education in the early years (Moon and Ceres).

NO HOUR OF BIRTH
Little more is known about his chart, so let the music play and see the alternative interpretation of Adagio for Strings by DJ Tiësto on You Tube.

Astrology chart Burt Bacharach

On this blog Art & Astrology I show you the patterns of artistic talents in the charts of various artists. This time the example is the chart of Burt Bacharach. The pattern in his chart is made by Venus in Taurus, rising before the Sun, without major aspects and final ruler of the Midheaven. It would almost have been enough, but there is more. So let us see the complete picture (above is his chart).

Musician and composer Burt Bacharach was born with Neptune related to ASC/MC, a 'calling' Venus in Taurus , final dispositor of the Midheaven and rising before the Sun. He also had the Moon angular (on the ASCendant). So, Venus, Neptune and Moon were prominent in his chart. Is that enough to show artistic talent in this chart, or should I add that there is 108 degrees between Venus and Neptune and that that is 1 quintile + 1 semi quintile? Or that Jupiter (ruler MC) is trine Neptune?

Burt Bacharach's artistic pattern is shown by the prominence of the planets that indicate the sense of artistic talents (Moon, Venus and Neptune). This is the chart of a man who goes for the beauty and style in life at any level (Venus) and who related this to his carreer (Midheaven). He also has a certain feeling for what people want to hear (Moon in Aquarius on the angle for being in the mood for what is new and modern) and he also has a crucial fantasy or vision (Neptune with ASC/MC). And look at the conjunction of Moon and Pallas for sense of patterns! Also important is the position of Mercury, the communicator.

Of course it takes success to be able to live of artistic talents. There are at least 10 midpoint combinations reflecting possible successes. Most important: Midheaven yod with Jupiter/Pluto (MC 180 JUP/PLU) and Jupiter related to the midpoint Sun/Moon.

Astrology chart Edgar Fauré

Saturn is on top because Fauré's music is classical (conservative). And in the chart above you clearly see the astrological pattern of artistic talents in the way the Moon, Venus and Neptune are related to each other and to Midheaven. Or look at it this way: Moon in Taurus is related to Venus and Neptune.

But there is even more 'proof' that this chart must be his or that it belongs to an artist. Watch the crucial importance of the signs ruled by the planets of art (Moon, Venus and Neptune). Pisces is on the Midheaven, Cancer on the Ascendant, the Moon is in Taurus and Venus is in Cancer again. All of the possible components for an artist were there, in the natal chart. Besides, Pluto is square Midheaven and Pluto rules the 5th house of (pro-)creativity...And Venus is 105 degrees from the MC. That means a strong focus on his talent.

Astrology chart George Gershwin

Another example of the astrological pattern for artistic talent is to be found in the chart of George Gershwin, who had Neptune square MC and trine Moon and Moon square Venus. When the Moon, Venus and Neptune go together, related to the Midheaven, there is a big chance of having the chart in hands of an artist. Gershwin was or wished to be a respected, classical artist. Saturn is conjunct his Ascendant. That is a crucial spot in the chart and on that crucial spot is the symbol of ambition and of everything that is ...classical.

Other indications for talent in his chart:

Venus 22.5 (half semi square) Sun/Moon (a talent in heart and soul)
Moon 112.5 AC/MC (a crucial sensuality)
Sun in Libra, Moon in Aquarius...the combination of their rulers (Venus and Uranus) reflects sense of rhythm.

Astrology chart Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart

On this blog I show the pattern of artistic talent in the charts of artists and here is the chart of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.

Special person, special chart...And what is it that makes the chart of Mozart that special?

1. Venus is calling!
Venus is not making aspects in sign or orb 5 degrees. That makes the planet of style, beauty and talents a prominent planet in this chart. Venus is one of the components to create artistic skills. The other one is Neptune...

2. Mercury-Neptune with MC
Neptune is sextile Midheaven
Mercury is trine Midheaven
Mercury rules the Midheaven and is opposition Neptune. This again illustrates art related to the career. Together they symbolize artistic communications.

3. Venus AND Uranus important...
Music often is related to Venus-Uranus for sense of rhythm. The chart of Mozart has it: Venus is 'calling'(see 1.) and Uranus is angular (on a prominent spot on the Descendant).

4. Moon-Venus
The Moon is quintile Venus. The quintile is a creative aspect. Moon-Venus combinations symbolize sense of art. Moon quintile Venus shows a creative sense of art and beauty.

5. Sun/Moon related to Venus
I almost forgot to mention that Venus is in Aquarius and related to the midpoint Sun/Moon: he was in heart and soul a talented person!

6. Saturn rules the 5th house of (pro-)creativity. Mozart was creative and procreative. He had a lot of children and unfortunately some of them died young.

So far the artistic pattern. But there is more...

7. Lots of combinations for successes
The amount of midpoint and aspect combinations for success is amazing! I counted 18, and that is a lot and that is why he is still a success today.

8.The Ascendant in the 13th degree of Virgo is a degree of harmony and serenity.

And here are indicated circumstances:

9. The background...
Moon is exactly conjunct Pluto in the 4th house and quintile Venus, sextile Jupiter. This is not only a combination for success (Moon, Jupiter, Pluto and Venus, Jupiter,Pluto) but also gives us information about his early years. He had to go on tour with his father at age 8 years old! Today we should call this exploitation. Another thing is that his environment and education (Moon) was important as a background. His father was a composer, too.

Notice that pnly people born around the hour hat Mozart was born have such a combination and in those days, few people were born at the same hour. But what does it mean? You could read the pattern like this: enormous (Pluto) progression (Jupiter) with an artistic (Venus) ingenuity (Moon), an great potential of sense of art as a background (the 4th house).

10. Unlimited ideas...
Sun and Mercury are in opposition with Neptune. Besides unlimited fantasy this combination also creates delusions like the ones he had in his last years. Though this overload of ideas made him very productive (also notice that Mars is square Aries Point for production), it certainly may have made him vulnerable, too.

What makes this chart so special is the unique mixture of great talent, genes, education and a busy life full of chances with the tragedy of every days life on the background.

Astrology chart of George Händel

The natal chart of George Händel has a lot of the same pattern as can be found in the charts of the other artists on this blog. You see:

1. Venus is on top (above all goes style, estetics and talent)
2. Neptune is rising before the Sun (first of all an artist, romantic person or believer)
3. Moon and Venus are in mutual reception (for sense of art)
4. Venus is square Uranus (for sense of rythm)and both are at the end of the vocational routing through the Midheaven in Capricorn (Händel was an official composer)
5. Sun in Pisces (ruled by Neptune) with Moon in Libra (ruled by Venus) highlight a sensitive character.

Astrology chart Paganini

I may be a little late, since he was born on October 27th, but...It is so nice to see Niccolo Paganini's chart, with Neptune on the Midheaven ruled by Venus and Venus oriental...Venus and Neptune: signature of the artist. This composer's chart is a stimulating picture of the heavens for an astrologer. I leave it with that and sigh...

BTW John Cleese was also born on October 27th, just like Paganini. You can read his chart here...
