Chart of Bill Cosby

This is the natal chart of Bill Cosby, a talented actor (and comedian, author, television producer, educator, musician and activist). We can see that he works in an artistic profession. The Moon (trine), Venus (biquintile) and Neptune (trine) are in aspect with Midheaven. That links the career to talent. Venus/Neptune midpoint is semi square the Moon. And Pallas is elevated with Jupiter: he is the positive role model. Even the importance of home and family life - the main subject of everything that he does - can be found. Sun/Moon midpoint is conjunct Vesta (keeper of the fire place) and AC/MC midpoint is opposition Vesta and Sun/Moon. Vesta is in the fifth house of show and entertainment to show us that his performances are about what is ‘domestic’.

We could stop here: a positive artistic role model of family life, but there is more, like the well aspected Uranus rising before the Sun and Venus and trine Midheaven (independence) or the opposition of Mercury and Pallas (a pattern of communications).

Maybe it is good to have a look at Venus sextile Saturn (ruler MC), because he does one man shows. In Dutch comedians are part of ‘kleinkunst’ (small art, literally). It is not meant as an insult! It means: performing art for entertainment. Venus is the symbol of entertainment and artists. Saturn is the symbol of 'small'. Venus-Saturn combinations often appear in the charts of similar kind of artists. Venus’ biquintile with Midheaven again shows a creative way to entertain the public.

If this was not the chart of Bill Cosby, but of any other man, it would be the chart of an optimist, a positive person, an international above all with an independent view. Jupiter and Uranus are prominent in this chart. They symbolize the helicopter view and the inventive mind. I also like Mercury quintile Uranus (a creative way of saying controversial or new things ....or creating new ideas and words).

And what’s that Quaoar doing, inconjunct his Ascendant? Maybe creating a new perspective (but a little ‘overdone’:)?

Perhaps there is more to mention, like the combination of Mercury, Jupiter and Pluto for the successful communications. But I stop here. A positive role model, motivated by the family and working with talent, creatively entertaining the public...that is how one can work with the possibilities of this natal chart. It can even be 'done' shorter: he has the capability (biquintile) to enjoy (Venus) the public (MC) and make people laugh.

When he started his career in entertainment, transit Pholus and transit Jupiter were opposition his progressed Sun. He was at a positive turning point in life! That was 50 years ago and he's still working!

Meryl Streep has the role of the main character in the movie about Thatcher and really: they managed to make her look like the former PM! For an obvious reason there is a relationship between the actor and the person that he/she is impersonating. And so it is in the case of Margaret Thatcher and Meryl Streep.

Meryl Streep and Margaret Thatcher both have an aspect between Sun and Jupiter (Meryl the inconjunction, Margaret the square). They also both have an aspect between Sun and Pluto (Thatcher has the square again, Meryl Streep has a semi square). The combination of Sun with Jupiter and Pluto increases self confidence and is one of the keys to success (or is it the result of it? One never knows…)

Of course, they are very different. Their charts are also different. But there is another similarity. Both ladies have Mars rising before the Sun and that is typical for ‘iron ladies’ (as Mars is the symbol of iron, male energy and drive). You might say that both are driven and successful or driven by (towards) successes.

Their synastry doesn’t show much of a ‘relationship’. The Sun in Libra (Thatcher) doesn’t match the Sun in Cancer (Streep and their Moons are in Leo (Thatcher) and Taurus. But the Mars of Margaret is trine the Mars of Meryl, so that they could be working together (and in fact, they have a relationship in the professional field).

The chart of Meryl Streep today has a Jupiter-Uranus ‘arrangement’. That is mirroring the commotion (controversy, too) and the great success of her latest movie. (BTW, Cancer has a rather good horoscope for 2012!: http://www.astromarkt.net/2012-2013-horoscopes.html

The chart of Margaret Thatcher has a prominent angular Saturn on the Ascendant and in Scorpio, trine Pluto ruler one, as a sort of a statement for the ‘die hard’. In the progressed chart Jupiter is almost conjunct Ascendant (changing sign to Aquarius). Transit Saturn is about to square the progressed Ascendant.

On special request I had a look at the chart of the late actrice (in movies of Warhol) and model Edie Sedgwick. By intuition I selected the optional Pallas on Astro.com and see: Pallas is elevated in the chart. Whenever patterns (such as role models) are of importance to someone, Pallas is important in the chart.

Edie Sedgwick's chart has Midheaven trine Moon, square Venus and 157.5 (sesquisquare + half semi square) Neptune. Moon, Venus and Neptune are not connected by aspects between them. This means that the career of Edie Sedgewick had artistic aspects.

Another pattern in the chart of Edie Sedgwick is that of the beautiful woman: Venus conjunct Saturn and sextile Pluto (the pattern that says: 'If you want to be beautiful, you must suffer'). Paul Gauguin and Vincent van Gogh: Neptune in Pisces

On this blog you see many astrogical patterns of artistic talent. These patterns are created by aspects between Moon, Venus and Neptune, the signs that they rule (Cancer, Libra, Taurus and Pisces) and Midheaven (for the professional). Now that Neptune is in Pisces it is time to have a look at the chart of two famous painter with a prominent Neptune in Pisces in the natal chart: Paul Gauguin and Vincent van Gogh.

PAUL GAUGUIN

Above is the chart of Paul Gauguin and here is the artistic pattern in his chart: Moon opposition Neptune in Pisces and both square Venus, ruler of the Taurus Midheaven and elevated. The Moon is semisesquisquare Midheaven and Neptune 75 degrees MC. The midpoint Moon/Venus is in hard aspect with Neptune. And I like to point at the prominent positions of the three players in the artistic pattern: Moon on the Ascendant, Neptune on the Descendant and Venus elevated! This chart is screaming that an artist was born. The chart doesn't speak of long life or steady marriages, however. Gauguin left his wife and children (Moon opposition Neptune and Venus square Neptune are part of the pattern of the artist AND part of the pattern of the divorced man).

Did you know that he lived with Vincent van Gogh for a while? Gauguin's Jupiter was exactly conjunct the Ascendant of Van Gogh and that is a supporting aspect. In the end, the mental state of Van Gogh was too much for Gauguin, however. BTW, Van Gogh also has Neptune in Pisces! Here is his chart:

The Moon (disposing of the Cancer Ascendant) is exactly square the midpoint Venus/Neptune and square Midheaven in Pisces. The Moon is also inconjunct the Ascendant and that describes the unbalanced emotions. It is a different kind of pattern and a completely different chart. The Sun is not making major aspects and that is telling us that Vincent van Gogh knew how to draw attention at any possible level, like a modern 'star'.

I wonder in what way Neptune in Pisces attributed to the style of both Gauguin and Van Gogh. They were contemporary painters and friends for a while, that is what I know.

Stephen King's natal A-rated chart is here. With Midheaven opposition Mercury and Neptune we already notice the importance of 'making up stories' for his career. The trine of Pluto adds suspense. Venus is 'calling' (in sign conjunct Quaoar = new worlds of fun) and in Libra to illustrate entertainment and style at any possible level. Moon and Venus are 75 degrees apart. We also see Moon sesquisqemisquare Neptune. Minor aspects often have a lot of impact. The tightest aspect is Mars opposition Pholus and trine Jupiter for a lot of drive to make a change.

Stephen King is a specialist in horror stories. I like to 'blame' the orientational Mars, Saturn and Pluto (rising before his sun) for a focus on unnatural death.

Chart of Phil Collins (now that he stops)

Phil Collins definitely stops playing the music. See Anglophenia about it...He said that the music won't miss him. Phil Collins attributed a lot to pop music and had many fans, however.

Pluto is often involved in 'come backs'. In 2010, Phil Collins released the album named 'Going back' (...). The inconjunction is the symbol of loosing balance, losts and giving up. I read that his I think that the transit of Pluto inconjunct his Midheaven 'helps' to devaluate his own achievements and is illustrating the difficult position and (physical) conditions. Before that (in 2010) I mentioned:

I see Progressed Midheaven inconjunct Mars (for loss of muscle/energy or having to give up working). Progressed Ascendant is inconjunct Venus, Progressed Venus square Midheaven, Transit Neptune sextile progressed Mars. Except for the last mentioned transit the indications are only valid for an AA-rated chart. There is one big indication for a sudden change: progressed Sun is square Uranus. And if the B-rated chart is correct, this sudden change went along with a difficult inconjunction of Mars. Mars happens to be important for someone who is hitting drums. That is because Mars is the symbol of striking, hitting and using tools.

Now there is also transit Saturn square natal Mercury. Saturn square Mercury has never been the symbol of the optimistic idea (sometimes even 'doom thinking') and often accompanies a hard decission, like a farewell (saying = Mercury and stop, quit, goodbye = Saturn). Saturn-Mercury is also the combination of the writer's block.

Andy Warhol was a Leo with Leo Ascendant. But even if you don't believe in sun signs anymore, the chart shows that a star was born. You see it on the chart drawing: he was born when the Sun was rising. That means that the Sun is prominent (on the Ascendant). The Sun is a star, so : it is the sign of a star or a leader. He sure knew how to draw attention (another meaning of a prominent Sun) and how to be of influence. He has a Sun shining brightly without major aspects with planets or lights (but trine Quaoar, the symbol of shaping new realities). That is for drawing attention

We see Moon trine Venus out of sign and Venus 127 d Neptune and also 127d Uranus. Venus is in opposition with the midpoint of Uranus and Neptune. Except for the last mentioned transit the indications are only valid for an AA-rated chart. There is one big indication for a sudden change: progressed Sun is square Uranus. And if the B-rated chart is correct, this sudden change went along with a difficult inconjunction of Mars. Mars happens to be important for someone who is hitting drums. That is because Mars is the symbol of striking, hitting and using tools.

Now that Museum Boymans van Beuningen in Rotterdam Netherlands will be exposing paintings of Han van Meegeren, famous for his false ‘ Vermeer’ paintings, it is a good moment to have a look at his chart.
The chart of Han van Meegeren is the chart of a master copier or should we say: someone who was very good at copying another person’s style. Venus, making no major aspects, reflects the talents in the chart. That is pointing at capabilities and talents at any possible level. She had a beautiful thrilling voice and we can see that in her chart: Uranus (thrilling) in Gemini (communication) and Uranus is the ruler of the Midheaven (the career). Venus, Jupiter and Pluto were aspecting the midpoint of motivation: Sun/Moon. It is the combination for big money and a lot of love. Notice the semi square between Jupiter and Pluto, indicating the wasted energy in that field. With Sun conjunct Neptune and trine Saturn ruler of the 8th house in the equal house system, there was a certain risk for illnesses and early swift death, related to nutrition (Ceres is in the 8th house!). In the year 1974 her progressed Sun was in the final degree of Libra and about to make an inconjunction with URanus, progressed ruler 8 in the equal house system. For the artist we seee that Neptune is rising before the Sun in a tight conjunction with the Sun. The Moon (unaspected!) is inconjunct Midheaven, Neptune is sesquisquare and Venus is square Midheaven. But there is no connection between them (though there is a 15d distance between Moon and Neptune). It is like if there is no such need for ideal beauty or pleasure, but that it is the career related to beauty and pleasure and sweet dreams.

Cass Elliot was a big woman and food killed her. I think that Ceres is the key, because Ceres is in the eight house, inconjunct Saturn and square Sun-Neptune. The combination of Sun-Saturn-Neptune is the combination of being ill or sick. Ceres is the symbol of nutrition (and genes). Something was wrong and Uranus on the Ascendant is a perfect way to express that her presentation (looks) was just as special as her voice was. Uranus is not making aspects in sign or orb 5 degrees, so that Uranus is 'calling', making her special at any possible level, anyhow!

When you see the natal chart of Vaclav Havel (former President of the Czech Republic, born October 5 1936 at about 15:00 hours) you immediately see the political leader*). Perhaps that is why when we are asked who Havel is, we think of the President first.

But Vaclav Havel also is a playwright and poet (after studying drama). That part of Havel is shown by the fact that Mercury (planet of the writer) doesn't make major aspects in sign while Neptune's oriental position is reflecting the imaginary world of fantasy, beliefs and idealism. His two children died, and his marriage was a failure. Perhaps that is reflecting the influence of Saturn on the Ascendant. The Ascendant is the window to the outside world and to others. Saturn is the 'dementor' (using a Harry Potter idea:), chilling and depressing, too serious, too 'stiff' to be able to see the good things in life and on the other hand: bad luck. Fatherhood and fathers (responsibility) is reflected by Saturn, too. So is being alone.

JUPITER for traveling
It is interesting to see that Saint-Saëns was more popular outside his own country than he was in France. I found his hour of birth on Astro.com but I get another degree of ASC and Midheaven that they do, using my computer program (astrolab)_. The reason that I remembered Celine is that Sarkozy quoted him.

PATTERN
The astrological pattern of artistic talent is obvious in this chart. The inconjunctions shows that there is little balance when it comes to a party and an extreme love for 'a lot' of candy. Jupiter in Taurus (the one that makes you bigger and/or great) is also sesquisquare the crucial midpoint AC/MC, promissing success and growth (in whatever direction).

That is the recipe for a man who will draw attention anyhow. And for a man with a passion! Jupiter was square Neptune and inconjunct Pluto on that day. That is reflecting success in the movies and a lot of fans, but...it would not come easy, it had his price.

VENUS
With Venus half semi square Sun/Moon and rising before the Sun he is motivated by (and orientated on) beauty, style and entertainment from the start. Venus is 75 degrees from the Moon and 112.5 degrees (square + half semi square) from the midpoint Moon/Neptune. That is reflecting sense of style and beauty in combination with sensitivity and empathy.

George Clooney moved to Hollywood in 1982 with Progressed Sun square Pluto. That aspect is indicating a moment of dramatic change. As Pluto is in his sixth house, his daily life style changed. He didn't become a success all at once. But in 2000 he was elected Best Actor in a comedy. Another thing that contributes to creativity is that 80% of the placements in Madonna's chart are in fire and earth signs. The combination of fire and earth is a creative combination. Her Sun is in a fire sign, her Moon is in an earth sign and so is her Ascendant. Charlie Chaplin made us smile. Where in his chart is the clown, the director and the composer of the music of Smile? And where is the artistic pattern? Why was he the 'little man'?

The artistic pattern is constructed by Moon, Venus, Neptune, (the signs that they rule) and Midheaven for the professional output. In the chart of Chaplin the pattern is like this:

1. Crucial position of the Moon on the Ascendant (popular, being able to 'act')

Venus, Neptune, the Moon and the signs that belong to them (Taurus, Libra, Pisces and Cancer) in aspect with each other and the Midheaven...The quintile and biquintile have the meaning of 'creative connection' and the quindecile (165 degrees, but also 75 and 105 degrees) shows a strong focus. You will notice that all of the charts of artists (writers, composers and actors) on this blog have such a pattern. So has Igor Stravinsky. It is his birthday today and google.com features a Google doodle to honor him. Art&Astrology honours him with the reading of his chart today:).

PATTERN OF THE ARTIST
Composer Igor Sravinsky was born June 17, 1882 in Oranienbaum at 8:29 GMT with the Moon and Venus in Cancer. This position increases sense of arts and feeling 'what the people need'. Venus was conjunct the midpoint ASC/MC, the cross point of horizon and meridian (Midheaven). That means that style, beauty and entertainment was crucial for the person born at this hour and place. Venus is in aspect with Neptune, a 167.5 degree aspect (sesquisquare + half semi square). And then of course Neptune is also in aspect with ASC/MC (a 67.5 degree aspect, a sesqui semi square). When you look at the picture of the chart, you see that Jupiter is on top (square Ascendant), rising before the Sun and half semi square Sun/Moon. Jupiter is the symbol of successes, travelling and 'the international', but also of 'guiding'. Stravinsky was, apart from a composer, also a conductor. He was born in Russia, he has been French and he died as an American: he was an international, too.

To conduct an orchestra you need to have leading and guiding qualities. Stravinsky had them. He had a prominent Jupiter and the Sun is 112.5 degrees (square+ half semi square) ASC/MC. To be in the middle of attention was of crucial importance. So was success. But the combination of being famous and being an international also had it's less pleasant sides. His self confidence was sometimes disproportionate. He could be rather arrogant.

ARROGANCE?
In the natal chart the Sun is inconjunct Jupiter, so this aspect 'perfected'. The inconjunction is the aspect of the 'but...'. Sun-Jupiter refers to self confidence (if not arrogance) and to the will to travel, succeed and grow. Perhaps it was not easy for him to deal with his success and that explains his attitude towards servants. Success perhaps got him out of balance**).
Another indication for arrogance (in the eyes of others) is Uranus conjunct Ascendant, symbolizing a presentation that might irritate others. The usual interpretation of the angular Uranus is 'being friendly to everyone regardless status, race ...' but I don't think that that is true. Uranus is not 'friendly', Venus is nice. Uranus'influence makes rather distant, independent, an individualist, different from the rest, not a 'follower'. Other people might feel uneasy when they meet a person with Uranus on the horizon. They are so 'different' and 'strange'. Stravinsky, of course, was a stranger in NY. He was 58 when he became an American. In whatever he did, he would be 'different'.

OBSESSIONAL REPEAT AND RETURN
The work of Stravinsky used to be considered as 'revolutionary'. Look at the drawing: Uranus and Pluto are on the angles. Together they symbolize dramatic change (revolution). The combination of Jupiter, Uranus and Pluto as most prominently placed planets might be 'read' as: sudden, unexpected great success or revolutionary success. There is a 105 degree aspect between Uranus and Pluto. Wikipedia quotes Paul Griffiths regarding Stravinsky's works using the words 'obsessional need to repeat and return'. One of the characteristics of Pluto is the 'come back' (reverse) and of Uranus: repeating (a signal). The products of an artist strongly relate to the personality of the artist.
With Uranus and Pluto angular you are bound to be influencial and original. With Sun/Moon in aspect with Saturn classical music is not far away. Uranus conjunct Ascendant adds rhythm and something new. The semi square between Sun and Uranus tells us that he always wanted to be different from the rest (and was controversial in a way).

ARREST
No one can have a prominent Uranus and Pluto (and in aspect with each other) without being controversial or without being arrested. On April 15, 1940 Stravinsky was arrested in Boston because of reharmonization of the National Antheme. That was with transit Uranus square Progressed Sun (for the upheavel and for being in the news), activating the existing natal semi square between Sun and Uranus.

MARRIAGE
I like to point at Venus in Cancer. Often this position of Venus leads to marrying a person that you knew from childhood, someone to remember. Also Ceres (symbol of the roots and genes) is in the seventh house of marriage.
Igor Stravinsky married a family member in 1906. His wife Katarina Nossenko. She died in 1938 after a long period of illness (Tuberculosis) when progressed Midheaven was conjunct his natal Venus. The midpoint Saturn/Neptune is related to disease. Venus is sesqui-semi-square this midpoint. The conjunction of the Midheaven with Venus reveals that a new period in his love life started.

In 1921 he met Vera de Bosset, a dancer who divorced her husband for him and married him in 1940, after the death of his wife. It is not unusual for an artist to have affairs. The combination of artistic talent (Venus-Neptune) is also one of the indications for a divorce in the charts of males.*) Pisces is a 'double sign' and Pisces is on the cusp of the seventh house of marriage. Another indication is Uranus on the Ascendant (opposition Descendant) for an unusual relationship. Charles Aznavour is a singer and an actor, but since February 12, 2009 he is also an ambassador. At age 84 Armenia asked him to be the ambassador in Switzerland, a mostly ceremonial function. Armenia is independant (again) since 1991. From 1920 to 1991 it was a (conquered) USSR Republic.

Uranus is the first outer planet rising before his natal Sun (followed by the important dwarf Ceres, the symbol of the 'roots'*). In my (Dutch) book Astro I.D. I give several examples of the effect of the oriental Uranus. Often this indicates a peculiarity or specialty, like for example getting very old. Pope Benedict has Uranus oriental, too, by the way. Aznavour's Uranus is right in the middle of Sun and Moon. Sun, Moon and Uranus are in hard aspect with the crucial midpoint ASC/MC (the crosspoint of time and place of birth), in the 22.5 degree range. This tells us that these three (Sun, Moon and Uranus) are of crucial importance for the development of Aznavour. He is in heart and soul an outsider, different, peculiar, special and adventurous.

Saturn is on top of Aznavour's chart and that is most often reflecting conservatism, the classical way or ...ambition and administration. It also tells us that the influence of the parents is substantial. His parents were artists.
Saturn is 'calling' (not making Ptolemaic aspects in sign or orb 5 degrees), too (just like in the chart of the pope).

Aznavour is not a pope, but an entertainer (songwriter, acotr and public activist). He has no major aspect with the Sun (Sun is 'calling') and that reflects leadership or performance (drawing attention) at any possible level. Now that April 1, 1961 at 9h50 in Bathgate seem to be THE data for the birth chart of Susan Boyle (earlier June 15 seemed to be the proper date), I considered to give it a try with this chart. The artist is in the chart, so is the unmarried woman and so are the limitations. And there is a remarkably stronge disposition for artistic talents at that time, on that day.

The astrological pattern for artistic talent consists of aspects between Moon, Venus, Neptune and the Midheaven and in the signs that belong to Moon, Venus and Neptune (Cancer, Taurus, Libra and Pisces). It is all there:

2. Venus quindecile (165d) Neptune for a strong focus on arts
3. Moon quindecile Venus (for a strong focus on the need for what is beautiful)

Remarkable: her Venus is in the middle of Moon and Neptune, making quindeciles with both. The combination of the planets of the arts is being repeated three times in the 22.5 degree midpoint range (f.ex. Venus opposition Moon/Neptune, a 'midpoint yod', see the drawing of the chart). There is, in other words, a very strong focus on artistic talents, indicated by the two quindeciles, the midpoint yod and the 3 times repeated midpoint combination!
